Red Storm Top Wildcats, 3-2

The Red Storm came at the Wildcats from all angles, notching 68 kills, 24 blocks and seven service aces. Sophomore Rosalyn Dang (Punahou, Hawaii) led the Red Storm attack with 16 kills, while also adding 10 digs. Senior Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y.) notched a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs on the night. Mercein also tied a career-high with five service aces, adding to her school-record of 130. Sophomore Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) dished out a season-high 64 assists and tallied seven digs.
Freshman Jennifer Emelogu (Austin, Texas) continued her outstanding rookie season by setting a new school record for solo blocks in a match with eight. For the night, Emelogu totaled 10 blocks and 10 kills.
In the deciding fifth game, junior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif.) recorded five kills to lead the Red Storm to victory. McCrary had 15 kills and six digs for the match.
Junior Meaghan Creedon (Rohnert Park, Calif.) had a career match, setting career highs in kills (10), attempts (24), digs (8) and block solos (3). Senior Sterie Varghese (Elmont, N.Y.) led the team with 15 digs, and junior Mischara Saunders (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded six kills for the Red Storm.
Villanovas Dana Jones notched 21 kills for a .318 hitting percentage. Setter Jenny Badran-Grycan recorded a double-double for the Wildcats with 45 assists and 16 digs. Kate Tucker and Leah Matthews led Villanova with 17 digs apiece.
The Red Storm return to action on Sunday, November 4 against Rutgers in their final home contest of the season. Seniors Kristy Mercein and Sterie Varghese will be honored in a pregame ceremony, with the match slated to begin at 2pm.
