SJU Mens Tennis Falls to Columbia

Scharf posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Oscar Chow in the top spot.
Sophomore Jake Maxwell (Glen Cove, N.Y./P.D. Screiber) and senior Brian Scharf (Bronxville, N.Y./Roosevelt) won at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, rounding out the Red Storms singles wins. Maxwell posted a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-1, over the Lions Peter Holik. Scharf dropped the first set, 1-6, but bounced back to win, 6-3, 6-2, over Columbias Mark Crae.
Junior Fabian Carere (Corona, N.Y./Cardozo) lost at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0, to Columbias Danny Opiei, while junior Christian Carere (Brampton, Canada/Denis OConnor Catholic) fell at No. 5 and senior Cameron Lore (Toronto, Canada/Brebeuf College School) fell in the sixth spot.
In doubles action, Erik Scharf and Maxwell posted an 8-6 win over Holik and Mickey Kaplan, but the Red Storm lost the final two doubles matches as Columbia sealed the win.
The men are next in action on March 3 at Dartmouth.
