NEW YORK – Coming off its third BIG EAST Championship in four years, the St. John's men's tennis team swept the conference's major postseason awards, as announced by the league on Thursday.
The Red Storm was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year, while Radomir Tomic earned Player of the Year honors and David Petrovic was tabbed Freshman of the Year. St. John's also placed three student-athletes on the All-BIG EAST Team following a standout 2026 campaign.
The Johnnies are the first program to sweep the men's tennis major awards since DePaul accomplished the feat in 2022.
Head Coach Dillon Pottish led the Johnnies to a 19-6 overall record, including a perfect 5-0 mark in BIG EAST regular season play. St. John's captured its ninth conference tournament title and secured the program's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance.
This marks the third time in the past four seasons and the fourth time in Pottish's seven-year tenure that the Red Storm coaching staff has earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Pottish is joined by assistant coaches Carlos Maldonado and Brenden Volk, along with team manager Brandan Roldan.
Tomic, a Mississippi State transfer, posted an impressive 30-8 combined record en route to BIG EAST Player of the Year honors. Competing primarily at the No. 1 singles position, he went 13-3, while also registering a 3-1 mark at No. 2 singles. In doubles play, Tomic teamed with Danilo Raicevic to go 13-3 on the top court.
During the BIG EAST Tournament, the Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina native was dominant, going a perfect 5-0 without dropping a set in singles play. He closed the regular season on an 11-match winning streak, including victories in his final seven doubles matches.
In his debut season in Queens, Petrovic earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors after compiling a 10-4 singles record, competing exclusively on the top courts. The Munich, Germany native also posted a 7-7 record at the No. 2 position, consistently facing top competition.
In addition to the major awards, St. John's had three unanimous All-BIG EAST selections. Semen Agynskyy and Tomic earned First Team honors, while Petrovic was named to the Second Team.
Agynskyy delivered an outstanding first season with the Red Storm, posting a 29-5 combined record. He went 16-2 in doubles play alongside Adam Groves and was named the BIG EAST Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after recording three singles victories and contributing to two doubles wins over the three-day event.
St. John's will make its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four years on Friday, facing Columbia at 12 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. The winner of the match will advance to take on either Rider or No. 4 Virginia on Saturday at 5 p.m.
