In the first game, the Red Storm broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth and Orsogna took care of the rest, allowing only one unearned run in the first inning and striking out four batters en route to his third win of the season.
Virginia Tech scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first when Brad Bauder walked, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly. St. Johns evened it up in the third when sophomore second baseman John-Paul Cirigliano (Flushing, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) hit a one-out single, stole second and scored when junior outfielder Billy Grasier (Muttontown, N.Y./Miller Place) singled to right.
The Red Storm took the lead for good in the fourth when senior Eric Potts (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a fielders choice and scored on a single from junior Bryan Hedgecock (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).
Orsogna, meanwhile, took control after the first inning, allowing only one runner to reach scoring position until the fifth, when Tech loaded the bases with two out. The second-year righthander induced Addison Bowman, the No. 3 hitter, to foul out to first, ending the threat. Orsogna is now 3-0 overall with a 3.73 earned run average.
In the second game, the Hokies scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to the win. Freshman catcher Jeremy Winter (Cliffside Park, N.J./St. Joes-Montville) hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning for the Red Storm.
St. Johns (7-9, 3-2 BIG EAST) plays at Georgetown on Saturday at noon. The games will be played at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Maryland.
