Heading into singles play, the Red Storm trailed 0-1 after dropping all three doubles matches. Erik Scharf (Bronxville, N.Y.) returned to the St. Johns lineup and easily downed Boston Colleges No. 1 player, Justin Slattery, 6-2, 6-3. Scharf is now 12-0 in dual match play. At the second slot, Jake Maxwell (Glen Cove, N.Y.), who has been playing his best tennis of the season lately, took care of Jason Cowett, 6-4, 6-3. Brian Scharf (Bronxville, N.Y.) has also been playing very well and downed Tim Brennan, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 position.
At the third and fifth positions, St. Johns was unable to capture wins. Fabian Carchi (Corona, N.Y.) lost 3-6, 6-7 (5) to Brad Anderson. Christian Carere (Brampton, Canada) fell 2-6, 2-6 to Paul Colahan at the No. 5 spot. The score was now tied at 3-all.
The tiebreaker would be the match between Cameron Lore (Toronto, Canada) and Ross Pytlco at the No. 6 position. Lore dropped the first set 3-6 and rebounded in the second set to win 6-3. Lore played a confident third set and easily captured the match with a 6-0 win in the third set. This was sweet redemption for Lore who lost the tiebreaking match at West Virginia.
The Red Storm travel to Villanova Tuesday to take on the Wildcats at 2:30 pm. On Thursday, April 12, St. Johns will wrap up their BIG EAST season against the Providence College Friars at the USTA National Tennis Center at 1:00 pm.
