The Rams won the first game, 31-29, but the Red Storm bounced back to win by scores of 30-25, 30-28 and 30-22 in the final game.
The win was the fourth-straight for St. Johns, as they improve to 8-1 with the win. Fordham falls to 5-2.
It was good for us to get back out there, St. Johns Head Coach Joanne Persico-Smith said. Obviously, the last week has been tough for everyone, but I think the kids were happy to get out there and get back to playing volleyball.
A balanced effort from St. Johns was led by junior middle blocker Mischara Saunders (Norwalk, Calif./Long Beach City College), who had 15 kills, four digs and seven block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) had 13 kills and seven digs, while sophomore Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii/Maryknoll) added 49 assists and 16 digs and senior outside hitter Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) chipped in 14 digs.
St. Johns continues a three-game home stand this weekend, hosting BIG EAST conference foe Virginia Tech on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Red Storm will conclude the weekend with a match against Georgetown on Sunday at 4 p.m.
