Volleyball Drops Match to Georgetown, 3-1

St. Johns dropped the first game, 30-26, to a Hoyas squad that recorded 18 kills in game one. In the second game, the Red Storm battled for every point and managed to win 30-28. Georgetown took the third game, 30-22, while the Red Storm committed 11 errors. SJU rebounded in the fourth game, rallying to within five points, but the Hoyas captured the game 30-23. The Hoyas improve their record to 5-4, 2-0 in the BIG EAST while the Red Storm fall to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Junior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif./Long Beach City College) led the Red Storm with 15 kills while sophomore Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) chipped in 12. McCrary also contributed a team-high 22 digs and senior Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) recorded 18. Freshman Jennifer Emelogu (Austin, Texas/Johnston/Round Rock/LBJ) recorded a season-high four solo blocks and five kills in eight attempts.
Georgetown recorded 66 kills and just 18 errors on the day, while St. Johns collected 49 kills and 28 errors.
St. Johns returns to action on Tuesday, September 25 at 6 p.m. when they battle the Jaspers at Manhattan College.
