Red Storm Drop First Non-Conference Match

Monmouth (6-4-1) got on the board early with a goal in the fourth minute of play. A corner kick by Valerie Leininger set Cheryl Wroblewski up for the score.
Sophomore midfielder Lauren McGrory (Happauge, N.Y.) would tie the game at one-all with her second season goal at 9:22. Senior midfielder Joanna Dawson (Staten Island, N.Y.) pushed the ball out from the front of the net to McGrory who was in the corner of the box. McGrory then sent a blast past the Hawks goalie and into the upper right hand corner of the net.
Monmouth broke the tie in the 57th minute on a goal by Kate Sands. The duo of Leininger and Wroblewski connected again in the 64th minute to seal the win for the Hawks.
Senior goalkeeper Tina Fogg (Warwick, R.I.) made four saves facing 12 total Monmouth shots. For the Hawks, Kim McCarthy and Abby Shiffler spilt the duty making three saves total.
The Red Storm return to action on Tuesday, October 15 when they battle Rutgers University at Belson Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
