St. Johns Wins ECAC Womens Soccer Championship

After 110:00 minutes of play the game was tied at one, forcing a shootout. For Cornell, Sarah Olsen went first, scoring with a shot to the bottom right corner of the net. Freshman Andrea Coukoulis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) went first for St. Johns, knotting the shootout at one by beating the goalie on the left side. Alison Gombars shot for Cornell was punched out by Fogg. Freshman Erin Henderson (Watervliet, N.Y.) scored with a shot through the right side to put the Red Storm up 2-1. Fogg saved Cailin Rices blast for the Big Red on the left side. Senior Jen Pugsley (Freehold, N.J.) sent her shot high and wide, keeping the score at 2-1. Cornells Phela Townsend kick was saved by a diving Fogg. The gamewinner was scored by sophomore Kati Schantz (Yorba Linda, Calif.) on a shot to the lower right corner.
The Red Storm sent the game to overtime by tying the game with just 55 seconds left in regulation. Henderson grabbed a deflected shot by sophomore Dominica Reina (Frankfort, N.Y.) and sent it past two defenders to the back of the net.
Cornells Emily Knight notched her second goal of the weekend off a corner kick by Ali Gombar, to put the Big Red ahead 1-0 at 84:34.
Fogg made 11 saves on the day, seeing 21 Cornell shots. Fogg recorded 14 saves, plus three in the shootout, and a shutout on the weekend, For the Big Red, Kristin Lotito recorded seven saves, facing 16 total Red Storm shots.
The Red Storm finish the 2002 season with an 11-6-4 overall record. Cornell is 9-6-0 on the year.
