Sheba George Sets a New SJU Record and Earns Individual Honors as the Men Finish Eighth and Women 13th at BIG EAST Track and Field Championships

For the second consecutive year, Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the discus and hammer throw. Her mark of 58.85m(1931) in the hammer throw set a new SJU record, while her toss in the discus (49.70m) moved her into second place on the SJU All-Time list. The victories earned her the honor of 2002 Womens Most Outstanding Field Performer.
On the mens side, Jose Zayas (New York, N.Y.) finished third in the 1500m with a time of 3:46.64. Ed Hausdorf (Bellerose, N.Y.) added a third place in the javelin throw with a mark of 2070, while Mohammed Kanu (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.24. Graduate student George Maringapasi (Harare, Zimbabwe) added a fifth place finish in the long jump and a seventh place in the high jump.
