The team was led by senior Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y.), who earned a position on the Verizon Academic All-American team. Senior Jason Kane (Rutherford, N.J.), Brian Dorsey (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Bilezikjian were all named to the Verizon Academic All-District I team. The trio earned St. Johns the honor of the only University to place three players on the District I team.
Bilezikjian earned a bachelor of arts in education, maintaining a 3.89 grade point average, while posting a perfect 4.0 in five of his last eight semesters. He finished the season batting .347 (61-for-176), which ranked second on the team, while leading the team in eight different offensive categories. The Texas Rangers drafted Bilezikjian in the 14th round of the 2002 draft, and he is currently playing for Pulaski (Va.) in the Appalachian League.
Kane posted a 3.5 GPA in the spring, which raised his cumulative average to 3.3. He was the only player to start every game, in which he led the team in batting average (.358), doubles (22) and hits (71). He was second on the team in slugging percentage (.549), total bases (102) and RBI (32).
Dorsey earned a GPA of 3.91 for the spring to raise his cumulative average to 3.56. With the starting pitching staff plagued by injuries Dorsey stepped up and delivered. He was 7-2 with a 3.18 era in 15 appearances. He pitched two complete games and allowed opponents to hit only .255 against him. Dorsey signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Junior Mike Tamulionis (West Bridgewater, Mass.) added a 3.1 average for the spring to give him a cumulative average of 3.25. Tamulionis was a workhorse out of the bullpen appearing in 22 of the Red Storms 52 games this season. He posted a 1-2 record while leading the team in saves (5) and earned run average (3.14). The Texas Rangers drafted Tamulionis in the 31st round of the 2002 draft.
