St. Johns Tops Binghamton, 2-0

Feeling right at home on the turf at DaSilva Memorial Field, sophomore Dominica Reina (Frankfort, N.Y.) notched the gamewinning goal for the Red Storm tonight. Reinas tip-in off freshman Kaitlin Schmidts (Centereach, N.Y.) deflected shot gave St. Johns the 1-0 lead at 73:43. Reina has now recorded four goals in four games on the season.
Schmidt continued her outstanding week, notching her fourth career goal in as many games. On a cross from senior Jen Pugsley (Freehold, N.J.), Schmidt knocked in the pass to put the Red Storm up 2-0 (85:50). On the season, Schmidt has four goals in five shots and has totaled nine points. For her work last week, Schmidt was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
Senior goalkeeper Tina Fogg (Warwick, R.I.) earned her 15th career shutout with the help of a strong defensive line in front of her. Senior Jen Taylor (South Hempstead, N.Y.), who was honored as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for September 9, junior Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.), sophomore Pristina Alford (Tacoma, Wa.) and freshman Andrea Coukoulis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) continued their outstanding play tonight. The Red Storm defenders did not allow a Binghamton shot on goal all night. Fogg (2-0-2) is now one shutout shy of tying St. Johns all-time record, which was set by Sherry Reill (16).
The Red Storm return to action this weekend at the Rutgers Tournament in New Brunswick, N.J. On Friday, September 13, St. Johns battles Old Dominion at 6:00 pm. The Red Storm will face Boston University at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 15.
