Jamaica, N.Y. St. Johns freshman womens soccer player Kaitlin Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.) has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced today.
In three games last week, Schmidt had a hand in each of the seven goals scored by the Red Storm. She assisted on the game-winning goal by Dominica Reina against Binghamton, before scoring an insurance goal herself. In St. Johns 4-3 overtime win over Old Dominion, Schmidt notched two goals and two assists. To close out the week, she scored the Red Storms only goal in a 1-1 tie with Boston University. Schmidt amassed 11 points, three goals and three assists, in her second week of collegiate soccer.
She is currently tied for the BIG EAST lead in both goals (7) and points (17). Her 2.83 points per game average is the best in the BIG EAST. Schmidt is the first St. Johns womens soccer player to earn BIG EAST weekly honors more than once in a season.
The Red Storm begin BIG EAST play this weekend with matches at Providence College and Syracuse University.
