St. Johns Winning Streak Snapped by UConn

The first half of play was evenly matched, with the Connecticut goalie making three saves and the Red Storms Tracey Rollings making four. Among the defensive highlights was an outstanding stop by junior defender Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.). UConn came out charging in the second half, scoring their first goal at 52:33. Elisa Pirinen sent a blast from the top right corner of the box to put the Huskies ahead 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Salla Ranta notched her first goal of the night, knocking in a pass from Sarah Popper. Ranta also scored the Huskies third goal, a header from Kristi Lefebvres corner kick.
Rett led the Red Storm attack with three shots on goal. Sophomore Dominica Reina (Frankfort, N.Y.) and senior Joanna Dawson (Staten Island, N.Y.) both displayed strong performances, each seeing scoring opportunities.
Rollings (Devon, England) made eight saves in the game, while allowing three goals. For Connecticut, Maria Yatrakis made six stops.
The Red Storm return to action on Tuesday, October 1 with a non-conference game at Stony Brook.
