Cross Country Competes in the 2003 Metropolitan Championships

Bronx, N.Y. - Several members of the St. John's Cross Country team competed in the 2003 Metropolitan Championships on October 3 at historic Van Cortlandt Park. The 308 points totaled by the Red Storm placed them 11th in the team competition.
Sophomore Jasmine Barreto (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Red Storm effort placing 56th out of 145 finishers with a 20:37 clocking for the 5k. Aja Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished close behind with a time of 21:25 to take 81st place.
Junior Kathleen Maher (Mineola, N.Y.) came in at 22:09 (102nd place) for the Red Storm. Sophomore Shamere McKenzie (Bronx, N.Y.) crossed the line next at 22:30.53 to take 109 overall. McKenzie was followed by teammate's Sophia Jackson (Staten Island, N.Y.) at 23:20 and Dominque Ficalora (Oceanside, N.Y.) at 23:31.
Sophomore's Tamara Cherisme (Hollis, N.Y.), Tarashon Broomes (Fairlawn, N.J.) and Lauren Walsh (Amity Harbor, N.Y.) along with senior Taniesha Lewis (Somerset, N.J.) also gave a strong performance for St. John's.
The Red Storm return to action and will host the SJU Cross Country Fall Festival in Oakdale, N.Y. on Sunday, October 19, 2003.
