Garcia-Moreno Claims Metropolitan Cross Country Championship Individual Title; St. John’s Finishes Third as a Team

Red Storm collect 77 points as a team
BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. – St. John's Cross Country continued its team success at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships, placing third behind the 2026 individual champion Naiara Garcia-Moreno.
This is the fifth year in a row that the Red Storm have claimed a top-four team finish. The squad collected 77 points, trailing the team champions in Columbia with 44 points and second-place Hofstra with 55 points.
Garcia-Moreno was the lone runner in the field of 50 competitors to dip under 18 minutes in the women's 5K race. The junior clocked a personal-best time of 17 minutes, 44.60 seconds to win the event by an impressive 22-second margin.
For the second meet in a row, Attoya Harvey turned in a top-10 finish by placing 10th overall with a time of 18:39.73. Jimena Aguilar knocked nearly 90 seconds off her season-opening race, stopping the clock in 19:23.53 to place 18th overall, and was closely followed by Ana Dobsa with a time of 19:43.23 in 20th.
Sarafina Scavo rounded out the top five harriers for the Johnnies, placing 28th with a time of 20:30.16.
Maddie Kelso-Heap made her season debut with a time of 21:30.85. Freshman Julia Grant turned in a time of 22:05.30, and Eileen Granados closed out the competitors for the Johnnies with a time of 23:46.45.
The Red Storm are back in action next weekend for the ECAC Cross Country Championships at Bethpage State Park on Saturday, Oct. 17.
