A successful past that includes the major league careers of two potential Hall of Fame candidates in John Franco and Frank Viola. The program has been to the pinnacle of the sport with six appearances at the College World Series. The program debuted in 1937. Other baseball highlights are noted below:
- Two Verizon Academic All-Americans in 2002 (Charlie Bilezikjian, Brian Dorsey)
- One NIT Academic All-American (Bilezikjian - 2002)
- Two players selected in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft (Bilezikjian and Dorsey)
- Five time Big East Champions ('85, '86, '88, '93, '97)
- Six College World Series Appearances
- 26 NCAA Tournament Appearances
- 70 SJU Players have played in the professional ranks
- Three players (Rich Aurelia, S.F. Giants) currently in the major leagues, led by the all-time Major League leader in saves for a left-handed pitcher, John Franco (New York Mets); former player Matt Galante, Sr. now serves as third base coach with the Mets.
