The Red Storm and Panthers will try to conclude their three games series on Monday afternoon. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m.
St. Johns (11-12, 2-0 BIG EAST) swept a doubleheader from Pittsburgh (18-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon behind a pair of outstanding efforts from junior starter Joe Reid (Rutherford, N.J.) and freshman Anthony Varvaro (Staten Island, N.Y.). Reid went 6.1 innings in the opener, allowing one run on eight hits with nine strikeouts, as St. Johns posted a 4-1 win. In the nightcap, Varvaro handcuffed the Panthers, allowing only one unearned run on five hits, with three walks and eight strikeouts in a 7-1 win.
Junior Drew Jackson (Morgantown, W. Va.) hit a bases loaded double in the fifth inning of the first game, driving in three runs, to lift the Red Storm. In the nightcap, three players had two hits apiece, with junior Jesus Bravo (San Jose, Calif.) hitting a double, a single and scoring two times. Junior shortstop Mike Rozema (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and second baseman Derek Sullivan (Lincoln, Calif.) each had two singles.
