The Red Storm took an early led in game one on a triple by sophomore Allina Sainz (San Diego, Calif.). Sainz dropped a hit just inside the right field line that rolled to the wall, allowing senior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio), who notched SJUs first hit of the game, to come around and score from first.
Freshman Jo Sherlock who has been hot at the plate, led off the second inning with a single through the right side. Sherlock advanced to second on a sac bunt by Marical and moved on to third base on a ground out by freshman Linda Reyes (Garden Grove, Calif.). With Sherlock running on the play, senior Jessica Cameron (Girard, Ohio) laid down a bunt for an infield single, allowing Sherlock to shore.
Senior Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio) led off the third inning with a double to left field and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Sainz. The fourth inning was the only one in which the Red Storm were sent down in order.
In the fifth inning the Red Storm notched six runs on five hits. Sherlock hit her fifth homerun of the season, knocking in three runs to end the game with a 9-0 victory for St. Johns. St. Francis recorded just one SJU out in the inning, a sacrifice fly by sophomore Jillian Sandoval (Orange, Calif.). Argeras and Sainz also had RBI hits in the fifth.
Sophomore Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) earned the win for the Red Storm, allowing just one hit over four innings. She walked one and struck out five for her seventh win of year. Marical, making her pitching debut, worked one inning sending the Terriers down 1-2-3 including one strikeout.
The Red Storm offense wasted no time in the second game. Shepherd put down a bunt for an infield single, advancing freshman Megan Oliver (Endicott, N.Y.), who was hit by a pitch, to second. Argeras then hit her seventh homerun of the year over the centerfield wall to put St. Johns ahead 3-0. Sherlock hit her 12th double of the year to centerfield and came around to score the Red Storms fourth run of the inning on a single up the middle by Marical.
In St. Francis portion of the inning, Marical worked her way out of a jam. She gave up a walk and a two out single, but ended the inning by getting the Terriers first baseman to strikeout swinging.
In the second inning, St. Johns added another run on an RBI double by Oliver. Cameron reached on an infield bunt single and came around to score on Olivers extra-base hit.
Sherlock hit her second double of the game in the third inning to advance Sandoval, who had walked, to third. Marical came to bat sending a long shot to the right field fence that the fielder mishandled, allowing both Sandoval and Sherlock to score.
In two innings of work in her first collegiate start, Marical allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two for the win. Freshman Melanie Lehman (Placerville, Calif.) came on in relief of Marical, pitching the final four innings, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts.
