In 1981 softball debuted as a varsity sport. The program also is the benefactor of a new on-campus facility built in 2001. A list of highlights is detailed below:
? Christina Tucker named 2004 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, first individual conference award in program history
? Three First Team All-BIG EAST selections
? 12 Second Team All-BIG EAST selections
? One Third Team All-BIG EAST selections
? Four BIG EAST All-Rookie selections
? Four BIG EAST tournament appearances
? Runner-up in first-ever BIG EAST tournament in 1990
? Set school record for wins in a single season with 32 in 1990
? Three named to 2004 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Mid-Atlantic Region First Team ( Courtney Fitzgerald, Jo Sherlock and Christina Tucker)
? Two Verizon Academic All-Americans in 2002 (Lisa Tropea, Alesha Argeras)
? One NIT Academic All-American (Tropea - 2002)
