St. John's Women's Tennis Tops Rutgers, 4-3

Jamaica, N.Y. -- The St. John's women's tennis team improved won its sixth match in its first eight since the start of the spring season, topping Rutgers on Sunday afternoon, 4-3.
The Red Storm improve to 6-2 overall with the win.
St. John's lost the doubles point, but sophomore Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) won a two-hour, three-set match at sixth singles for the deciding point in the match. Lorenzetti lost the first set 4-6, but came back to win the final two sets, 6-3 and 6-2, to clinch the Red Storm's win.
Junior Kristina Bothova (Bratislava, Slovakia/University of Northern Iowa) won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and junior Hande Gorur (Istanbul, Turkey/The Metropolitan State College of Denver) won at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Allison Davidson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/North Florida) dropped a three-set match at third singles, winning the first set 6-4, and losing the final two, 2-6 and 3-6, respectively.
Sophomore Lauren Leo (Staten Island, N.Y./University of San Diego) won at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-3; and junior Jennifer Liantonio (West Hempstead, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) lost at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Red Storm and Scarlet Knights split a pair of matches in doubles, and the deciding match went to a tiebreaker, with the Rutgers team posting a 9-8 (7-5) win over Bothova and Liantonio at the No. 1 spot.
St. John's returns to action on March 19, playing at St. Bonaventure.
