September 16, 2004, Queens, NY -- The St. John's Men's Lacrosse program officially began its new era under the direction of head coach Rick Sowell this week with the start of practices at DaSilva Memorial Field on the University's Queens Campus.
Sowell's new lacrosse squad takes to the field as St. John's resumes the sport after a 10-year hiatus. He brings in a roster of 37, which includes incoming freshmen and college transfers for competition that begins in February 2005.
The team will participate in an abbreviated fall schedule highlighted by an October 17 date at Yale in a 12-team competition that includes the host Bulldogs, Harvard, UMass and the University of Denver.
St. John's opens regular season play on February 27, 2005, when they travel to Pennsylvania to play Robert Morris. The Red Storm's home opener is on March 5 against ECAC rival Georgetown at DaSilva Memorial Field.
