Joey Asterino Named Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award Recipient

The award recognizes the impact and legacy of the late Siena Head Coach Liam Gleason
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's lacrosse student-athlete Joey Asterino has been selected as the program's representative for the inaugural Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMCLA) announced.
Asterino is one of 77 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse players recognized nationwide for their leadership, character and commitment to their teammates and communities.
The inaugural Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award honors student-athletes who exemplify leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and meaningful community involvement. The award recognizes individuals who make a lasting impact both on and off the field while demonstrating unwavering support for those around them. Gleason tragically passed away at the age of 41 on Dec.
"Joey embodies everything this award stands for," said Head Coach Justin Turri. "He brings unmatched positive energy to our facility every single day, leads by example through his consistent work ethic and always puts the team first. His genuine love for his teammates drives him to push those around him to be better. Joey also did an incredible job spearheading our Headstrong fundraiser this past fall, leading St. John's Lacrosse to the national final and demonstrating an outstanding effort toward a truly great cause."
Each NCAA Division I men's lacrosse program selected one student-athlete to receive the honor following the conclusion of the 2026 season. Recipients were chosen through a vote conducted by players, coaches and staff, recognizing the individual whose leadership and character best represent the values of their program and teammates.
The junior made three appearances in the midfield for the Red Storm this past season scooping a groundball in the win over Quinnipiac.
