Queens, NY - The St. John's women's soccer team improved their unbeaten streak to four games with a 2-0 win over Binghamton in their 2004 home opener at Belson Stadium today. The Red Storm, off to their best start since opening the 2000 season at 4-0, were led by Natasha Lee's (Albuquerque, NM) two goals in the win. Lee tallied her first goal, the would-be game-winner, early in the first period. Dominica Reina (Frankfort, NY) threaded the ball through two Bearcat defenders to Lee, who was breaking down field on the left side. Lee met up with the ball behind both defenders, took two dribbles and beat Kristie Bowers in goal for Binghamton to the left side of the net at the 4:50 mark. The Red Storm added to the lead in the 36th minute when Lee tallied her second goal of the afternoon. Kaitlin Schmidt (Centereach, NY) picked up the ball just passed the midfield line and advanced toward the Binghamton goal. With Lee once again breaking down the left side of the field, Schmidt placed a lead pass to the right of the final Binghamton defender, setting up Lee for a second one-on-one chance with Bowers. Lee connected to the bottom left corner of the goal, giving the Red Storm the 2-0 lead. Binghamton's best shot to cut into the lead in the first half came late when Deli Plourde took two close-range shots on goal within the last four minutes of the half, but Tracey Rollings (Paignton, England) was there to stop both attempts. St. John's controlled the ball for most of the second period outshooting the Bearcats 8-4, but was unable to add to the lead, as Bowers came up with four saves. Binghamton got two looks at the net, each time Rollings came up with the save. Rollings improves to 4-0 on the season and posted her first shutout of the season with six saves today. Bowers also finished with six saves for Binghamton. The Red Storm are back in action on Friday when they host the first day of action of the Inaugural St. John's University Women's Soccer NYC Nike Classic. In the first game of the afternoon, Columbia and Wagner will match-up and are followed by St. John's and Long Island at 8 pm.
