Red Storm Men's Tennis Wins UPenn Invite

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm men's tennis team took home a tournament win this weekend at the UPenn Invite. The men finished 20-8 overall for the weekend with Louis Desmarteaux (Thornhill, Ontario) and Aliaksandr Svetlakou (Minsk, Belarus) taking first place in the doubles draw on Sunday, Oct. 30.
"It is a tremendous win for us," said head coach Eric Rebhuhn. "We had a slow start this fall but were able do well against the teams we played."
Fourth-seeded Desmarteaux and Svetlakou defeated No. 1 seed Martin Sayer and James Lloyd of Radford 8-4. The duo began the weekend with an 8-4 win over Philip Gegenheimer and Matt Struble of Temple. They then brought in an 8-5 victory over Jared Drucker and Dan Urban of Columbia. Desmarteaux and Svetlakou defeated sixth-seeded Tas Tobais and Jimmy Fairbanks of Penn 8-3 in the quarterfinals before topping Michael Coleman and Louis-Xavier Lavalle of Maryland 8-4.
The UPenn Invite concluded the men's tennis team's fall season. The Red Storm returns to action at the Columbia Invitational on Jan. 27, 2006.
