Women's Tennis Continues Run, Beats Pittsburgh 6-1

Queens, NY - The Red Storm women's tennis team improved its winning streak to eight matches today, as St. John's topped conference foe Pittsburgh 6-1 in a match at Crocheron Park in Bayside, NY. Red Storm seniors Hande Gorur, Allison Davidson and Kristina Bothova all claimed singles and doubles victories while celebrating senior day.
St. John's improves to 8-3 overall and are now 5-1 in BIG EAST play, as league teams jockey for position as the conference tournament approaches.
Kristina Bothova and Barbora Blahutiakova won 8-0 at the No. 3 doubles position to start off the match and Lauren Leo and Mariana Chachua sealed the point for St. John's with an 8-6 decision at the No. 2 spot. Hande Gorur and Allison Davidson combined for an 8-2 win at the No. 1 position, as the Red Storm swept the doubles action.
Four Red Storm players cruised to straight-set victories en route to the win. Gorur kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emily Hughes at the No. 4 spot and was followed by an easy 6-0, 6-0 win by Davidson at No. 5 before Bothova's 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Annie Davies sealed the match for St. John's.
Leo gave St. John's its fifth point with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3 and Chachua won by default at the No. 6 spot. Pittsburgh's lone point came from a battle at the No. 1 spot, as Jill Williams outlasted Blahutiakova 14-12 in the third set, after the two split sets one and two.
St. John's will host BIG EAST rival Rutgers on Friday at 3 pm.
