Kia Wright and Angela Clark Earn All-MET Honors

Queens, NY - St. John's sophomores Kia Wright and Angela Clark, both of Copiague, NY, received All-Met Honors, it was announced by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association this morning. Wright was given a Division I First Team nod, while Clark earned a spot on the Second Team.
A rookie with the Red Storm, Wright was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection after she led St. John's and was third in the BIG EAST with 14.7 points and added 3.8 assists per game this season to guide the young team into its best start in program history and its best finish in 16 years. Wright also led team in free throw percentage and three-point shooting. In her collegiate debut, she led the Red Storm with 33 points, including a 6-of-7 performance from the three-point line and went on to earn the MVP award of the St. Bonaventure Shootout.
Clark led St. John's and was third in the BIG EAST conference with 8.4 rebounds per game and was second in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game this season. She led the Red Storm with 10 double-doubles and in field goal percentage, connecting on 45.0% of her shots. On November 29, Clark was named MBWA Player of the Week and also received Honorable mention on November 22. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the St. Bonaventure Shootout and at the UNC Wilmington Thanksgiving Classic early in the season, and as the regular season closed out, she notched four-straight double-doubles, averaging 11.5 points and 14.3 rebounds during the stretch.
The Red Storm finished the season with 20 wins and a trip to the WNIT Postseason Tournament, marking the best finish in 16 years. St. John's advanced to the second round of the postseason tournament, before falling to conference rival West Virginia.
Rutgers' Cappie Pondexter was named the Met Writers Division I Player of the Year after averaging 14.7 points per game for the Scarlet Knights. C. Vivian Stringer, who earned her 700th career win in 2004-05, was named the Coach of the Year after guiding Rutgers to a 28-7 overall record.
