Oliver and Sainz Named to All-BIG EAST Third Team

St. John's University softball senior Allina Sainz (San Diego, CA) and junior Megan Oliver (Endicott, NY) were named to the 2005 All-BIG EAST Third Team this afternoon, voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Sainz, a second team selection last season, led the team and was in the top-five in the BIG EAST in league play in both home runs with four and runs batted in with 16. She was also second on the team with a .311 batting average and nine runs scored in the 16 conference contests. For the season, Sainz was second on the team with five home runs and 32 RBI, while also batting .297 with 20 runs scored. She graduates from St. John's as the school's leader in RBI (126), walks (70) and putouts (1410), while finishing in the top-five in hits, doubles and home runs.
Oliver picked up her play in conference action, finishing third on the team at .308. She also scored a team-best 12 runs, tied for sixth in the league, in the leadoff spot. Overall, she was second on the team with 32 runs scored and fifth with 39 hits. This is her second conference honor as she was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2003.
