Queens, NY - Head Coach Debbie DeJong announced the hiring of Breanne Nasti as assistant coach for the softball team, effective September 6. Nasti is a 2004 graduate of the University at Buffalo (UB) and comes to St. John's after spending a year at Hofstra University.
"We are very excited about the addition of Breanne Nasti to our program," said DeJong. "She was a great player and has spent the last year coaching with a good program. I feel she will be a great asset to our coaching staff offensively and defensively."
During her playing days at the UB, Nasti was an All-America standout in the outfield. She graduated as the all-time leader in batting average (.387), home runs (27), RBI (113), hits (197), doubles (46), triples (7), runs (93), and walks (93) for the Bulls. A four-year letterwinner, Nasti was a three-time regional All-American and three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection. In 2002, she set the single season record for batting average at .451 for UB and the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
"I am very honored to be coaching here at St. John's and within the BIG EAST Conference," said Nasti. "I look forward to being a part of this coaching staff and working with such a talented group of student-athletes. I am very excited about our potential and what is to come in the future and throughout our upcoming season."
Nasti spent the last year as an assistant coach at Hofstra University, where she helped coach the team to a 43-16-1 record. Hofstra softball finished the season as champions of the Colonial Athletic Association and as Region 12 finalists. Additional coaching experience includes various camps and clinics such as the All-Star Softball Camp in Conklin, NY, and Camp Lenox in Lee, MA.
