Queens, NY - The St. John's softball team hosted its second of three fall invitational weekends at Red Storm Field on Saturday. Several individual Red Storm performances highlighted a day in which St. John's posted a 6-3 win over Sacred Heart and fell to Rider, 4-2.
Sophomore hurler Lisa Geer (Anaheim, CA) was masterful in the first game of the day against Sacred Heart, earning the complete game victory in the pitcher's circle. Geer scattered eight hits across seven innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out eight. She also came on to toss a scoreless sixth in St. John's loss to Rider later in the day.
Junior Lauren Anguiano (Mesa, AZ) was a standout at the plate, going a combined 3-for-5 with five RBI and a pair of runs scored. Anguiano provided some fireworks in the day's opening game against Sacred Heart, launching a towering three-run blast over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth. She performed brilliantly during the entire Rider game in an unfamiliar position -- behind the plate -- and even tossed out a runner attempting to steal second in the fourth.
Shortstop Danielle Estrada (Moreno Valley, CA) was solid in the field for the Red Storm, tallying six putouts and notching three assists on the day. She also combined to score three runs.
Head coach Debbie DeJong and the Red Storm take the field for their final weekend of fall ball on Saturday, Oct. 1. St. John's, Dowling and Fairfield will begin a three-game round-robin at Red Storm Field beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is free to all fans.
