St. John's Serves Up A Win Against Seton Hall

South Orange, N.J. - In its first BIG EAST victory of the season, the St. John's volleyball team topped Seton Hall 3-0 in Friday night at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. The Red Storm improves to 15-5, BIG EAST 1-2, while Seton Hall falls to 7-8, BIG EAST 1-2.
Hui Ping Huang (The Republic of China) led the Red and White posting a .361 hitting percentage off of 18 kills. Patti Hardiman (Honolulu, Hawaii) commanded six service aces and 12 digs, while Casie Brooks (Victorville, Calif.) gained 47 assists.
St. John's and Seton Hall battled through the eighth point of the first game before SHU took the lead with a four point gap. The Red Storm cut the Pirates lead in half with kills from Huang and Brooks. The two teams once again entered a point-for-point struggle. Back to back aces from Huang brought St. John's to game point. The Red Storm took the first game 30-25.
The Red Storm took an early 4-0 before heading into a similar situation as game one. The two teams went head-to-head through the thirteenth point until St. John's leaped ahead four-points. The Red Storm kept the advantage even though the Pirates lessened the gap. Two services aces from Hardiman brought St. John's to 26-19. St. John's finished game two 30-25.
St. John's kept the advantage going into the night's third game, twice controlling a seven-point lead and once an eight point lead, the largest gap in the entire contest. A kill from Hardiman ended the match 30-21.
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it hosts the Fighting Irish. St. John's faces DePaul University on Sunday, Oct. 9. Both games will be held at Carnesecca Arena and will both start at 2 p.m.
