The Red Storm scored one minute and fifteen seconds into the second half when senior Kaitlin Schmidt (Centerreach, N.Y.) scored off an assist from senior Holly Ryder (Plantation, Fla.). Just one minute later, junior Natasha Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.) was fouled hard by a Quinnipiac player to set-up a penalty kick for Henderson, who sailed the ball by Bobcat goal keeper Sarah Lusto to make the score 2-0.
St. John's out-played Quinnipiac from the start, both offensively and defensively. The Red Storm took 18 shots in the contest, 13 in the first half. Meanwhile, St. John's defense only allowed six shots in the entire match, three of them on goal.
"I thought that we were more effective in possessing the ball today," said head coach Ian Stone . "We showed a great deal of patience in breaking down a resolute Quinnipiac defense."
Henderson and Ryder made the All-Tournament team along with freshman defender Jacklyn James (Flushing, N.Y.) and freshman Brittany Cavarra (Littleton, Colo.). Henderson scored in today's game, Ryder had six shots and one assist in the tournament and Cavarra had one shot attempt and one assist this weekend.
St. John's got into the title game by defeating Bucknell, 2-1, Friday while Quinnipiac beat tournament host Columbia, 1-0.
The Red Storm looks for its third straight win this Tuesday. St. John's battles Yale University at Belson Stadium at 7 p.m.
