St. John's Puts Away Another Win Against Manhattan College

Queens, N.Y. - St. John's women's volleyball served up a 3-0 win against New York City rival Manhattan College Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, NY. The Storm improves 5-1 (0-0 BIG EAST) with the 30-11, 30-10, 30-22 victory.
Freshman Casie Brooks (Victorville, CA) continues to lead the Storm in assists. Tonight she added 32, totaling 120 (7 per game) for the season thus far. Brooks also commanded four service aces. Sophomore LaToya Blunt (Vacaville, CA) hit 75 percent, posting 13 kills. Caitlin Rimgaila (Trooper, PA) was a force at the net with five kills and three block assists.
St. John's took control of the game immediately, taking a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes of play. Manhattan could not gain the advantage as St. John's took an 8-0 run increasing the gap 22-5. The Storm finished game one 30-11.
Game two saw much of the same action for the Red Storm. St. John's began with a 6-0 lead and continued to dominate throughout. The Storm then took a 6-0, finishing 30-10.
Once again the Storm controlled the game, taking a 4-0 lead in the beginning. Yet, the Jaspers were not ready to give up quite yet. They closed the gap coming within one, 5-6, but were not able to capitalize. The Storm jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the final game and completed the sweep, 30-22, in a match that last just over 75 minutes.
Senior Maggie Pfeifer led the Jaspers with seven kills, hitting 74 percent. Meghan Plunkett was second on the team with kills posting four and hitting .222.
The Red Storm continues to lead the series over the Jaspers 10-2 after tonight's 30-11, 30-10, 30-22 win.
The Red Storm travels to Towson, MD on Thursday, September 8 and remains on the road this weekend traveling to Williamsburg, VA for the William and Mary Invitational on September 9 and 10. The Storm returns home on Thursday, Sept. 15 when it faces St. Francis College at 7 p.m., at Carnesecca Arena.
