St. John's Defeats Seton Hall, 3-1

The St. John???s women???s soccer team defeated Seton Hall, 3-1, Friday night at Belson Stadium. Vaila Barsley, Natasha Lee and Amanda Pasciolla all scored first-half goals to lift the Red Storm to its eighth victory of the year and fourth in league play.
Barsley got the St. John???s offense going early, when Susan Byrne reserved a miscleared Red Storm corner kick back into the box that Barsley finished to the upper-right corner of the goal. For Barsley, it was her third goal of the year, while it was Byrne???s second assist.
Less than two minutes later, in the sixth minute, Krystle Jalalian passed the ball to fellow forward Lee, who beat Seton Hall goalkeeper Amanda Becker to the left and scored her fifth goal of the year to put St. John???s up, 2-0.
The third St. John???s goal of the night came in the 28th minute, when Kelly McConnell served a cross from the right side which Amanda Santos flicked on with her head. On the other end of that header was Pasciolla, who settled the ball and blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the net. It was Pasciolla???s second goal of the year.
Seton Hall got on the board in the 43rd minute when Jen Michewicz struck a 20-yard free kick and scored to make the score 3-1.
In the second half, St. john???s out-shot the Pirates, 3-2, but neither team was able to capitalize on the opportunities.
Jaime Beran had four saves in the effort, while Becker finished with six on the night.
St. John???s improved to 8-3-3 overall, 4-2-2 in the BIG EAST, while Seton Hall fell to 6-7-2, 2-4-2 in league play.
The Red Storm is back in action on Sunday, when it hosts Rutgers in a 1 p.m. match at Belson Stadium.
