Desmarteaux Falls In ITA Regional Semifinals

St. John???s men???s tennis senior Louis Desmarteaux fell to Brown University???s 17th seeded Saurabh Kohli (6-4, 6-1) in the semifinals of the 2006 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men???s Regional Championships in Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 22.
The right-handed seventh seed Desmarteaux defeated Alex Vuckovic of Princeton University (6-3, 6-2) early Sunday morning in the quarterfinals of the second flight. His ride at the tournament began on Saturday when he defeated Adam Schwartz of the University of Pennsylvania (4-6, 6-4, 6-1), after receiving a first round bye.
In doubles action on Friday, Desmarteaux and sophomore Alex Svetlakov (Minsk, Belarus) fell in a hard fought match to local rivals Jonathan Wong and Mark Clemente of Columbia University, 9-8 (7). In the opening round of singles action, Svetlakov lost to Cornell???s Nick Brunner (6-3, 6-1).
