St. John's Head Coach, Kim Barnes Arico
On Tonight's Performance After Last Week's Loss to Marquette:
"I thought after the Marquette game that we were a little flat and we had a meeting early in the week on what we needed to do to get our energy level back and where we need to be. I was really proud of the effort and intensity we had tonight. I thought the people that came off the bench gave great contributions and our starters played hard and fought for the entire game. I was really proud the effort we gave."
On playing games one at a time:
"We try to think about one game at a time. I think leading into the Marquette game we started to look at the whole big picture, what can happen if we win this one, what can happen if we lose this one. I think it's important for us as a team to just worry about tomorrow, when we start thinking about too much I think don't think we play as hard as we can."
On the week off:
"They had a couple of days off, plus we had the snow day. I think it was good for them at this time to get some rest. At this point in the year, they get tired. School's back in session, so it's tough and I think they needed the time off."
On the team's depth:
"It's the strength of our team that on any given night, Tiina Sten comes in and gives us a spark or if Monique McLean if off then we have Greeba Barlow or if she's off then we have Tara Walker. As long as we the other little things, like defend and rebound our scoring will happen because we have so many offensive threats."
Louisville Head Coach, Tom Collen
On tonight's game:
"I give credit to St. John's. I thought they did a good job, they shot the ball well. I thought they were focused. I knew they would bounce back after their loss to Marquette. They haven't lost two games in a row all year long. So, I knew they were ready to play. I was disappointed in my team because I thought this was a pretty big game. We were trying to get over a team we were tied with, at least in the loss column. It was a game that maybe we could have won, we would have had better position to possibly earn a bye going into the BIG EAST tournament had we finished strong. St. John's has this one under their belt and now they have better position."
On St. John's:
"I give St. John's credit. Kim's done a great job with this program. They are without question an NCAA tournament team. I thought they deserved their ranking and I don't think they deserved to fall out of the polls because they lost to Marquette, because quite frankly I believe Marquette is a Top-25 team."
