SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team (20-6, 10-5) topped BIG EAST rival Syracuse University, 72-53, in the team's final road contest of the regular-season at Manley Field House on Saturday. Red Storm guard Tara Walker scored 19 points to lead the Red Storm to its 10th conference win of the season.
Junior Angela Clark added 13 points and seven rebounds to the Red Storm's victory, while Kia Wright had six points, five assists and four steals.
Senior Greeba Barlow sparked the Red Storm, scoring the team's first seven points, as the team jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first seven minutes. Barlow finished the game with 12 points. The Red Storm led, 41-20, at the half.
In the second half, the St. John's extended its lead to 31 (59-28) with 12:15 left in the game. Syracuse fought back, outscoring the Red Storm 25-13 in the final 12 minutes. Freshman Cintia Johnson lead the Orange with 12 points and three steals.
St. John's senior Danielle Chambers also had a strong outing, registering 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Red Storm returns to action in its final home game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as it hosts the Pirates of Seton Hall at Carnesecca Arena. Tuesday night is also Senior Night and Employee Night. Join us as the Red Storm recognizes the seniors leaving the team at the end of the season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
