QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm men's tennis team topped the Red Foxes of Marist, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Cunningham Park. St. John's was led by junior Louis Desmarteaux (Thornhill, Ontario) at the No. 1 singles position and picked up its only doubles win from David Nylen (Orebro, Sweden) and Tom Green (Norwich, England) at the No. 2 spot. The duo defeated Mark Santucci and Federico Rolon (8-4).
In singles play, the Red Storm went 5-1 with Desmarteux storming past Pedro Genovese (6-2, 6-2) and Nylen topping Brendon Van Wasbeek (2-6, 6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 position. Junior transfer Green grabbed his first win with the Red Storm at the No. 3 position, defeating Leo Rodriquez (6-2, 6-1). Freshman Aliaksandr Svetlakov (Minsk, Belarus) surpassed Santucci (6-4, 6-0) at the No. 4 spot while Morgan Bauer (New York, N.Y.) topped Ray Joseph (7-6(2), 6-2).
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Georgetown at 12 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
