Women's Golf Wins Hartford Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn. -
The St. John's women's golf team will head to the 2006 BIG EAST Championship with its first NCAA win of the season under its belt. The Red Storm was crowned the champion of the Hartford Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, carding a 640 over the two round event. Senior Christin Thomson (Ft. Frances, Ontario, Canada) and Brittany Lambertson (Northport, N.Y.) took first and second place, respectively.
After shooting an 80 in the first round of the Invitational, Thomson had an even better second round with a two-over par 75. She finished with a 155 and earned the Individual Championship title, her first of the season.
Lambertson took second place, coming in just two strokes behind Thomson with a 157. She also improved her swing in day two, carding a three-over par 76 after posting an 81 in round one.

Senior Maggie Steciuk (London, Ontario, Canada) was the third top-10 finisher for St. John's, coming in sixth with a 164. Classmate Katie Lebel (Mooretown, Ontario, Canada) took 11th, her highest ranking of the season, with a 176. Rounding out the Red Storm was Jaclyn Sanders (Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada) who carded a 170 and tied for 13th place.
"We played really well and it was a tough course," said head coach Ambry Bishop. "Overall, we really improved on certain parts of our game compared to yesterday. Hopefully, this will carry some momentum going into the BIG EAST Championships"
The BIG EAST Championships will take place April 24-25 and will be hosted by the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
