QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's golf team capped a successful 2005-06 campaign with a sixth place finish at the BIG EAST Golf Championships. Recently, freshman golfer Casey Calmi checked in with www.RedStormSports.com to answer some questions about himself, the team and the season.
RedStormsports.com: How old were you when you started playing golf?
Casey Calmi: I started playing golf when I was about two years old. My father is professional golfer so I've always been around the game.
RSS: As a New Yorker, what made you stay close to home and chose St. John's?
CC: I decided to stay at home because I love New York. I have way to many friends and family here to leave them all. This is the greatest city in the world, why would I want to leave it?
RSS: What is your favorite thing about New York City?
CC: I love that there is so much to do. You can never get bored living around here and there are a ton of different people around, the diversity is great.
RSS: If you could make up your own five-man roster, using anybody, pro or otherwise, who would you pick?
CC: My Pops, Tiger Woods, Seve Ballesteros, Adam Scott and Me.
RSS: As a rookie, how has the transition been to Division I golf and life at St. John's?
CC: It was tough in the beginning, especially as a freshman to get used to everything, but over time I think I've adjusted pretty well and am very comfortable now.
RSS: What is your favorite golf memory?
CC: Every time I am on the course with my dad.
RSS: How are you going to prepare for next season?
CC: I'm going to work on all aspects of my game until I can't stand anymore.
RSS: What is the best thing about being a St. John's athlete?
CC: People view your differently. You are not just another student but you're an athlete. I really enjoy playing with my teammates too, they are a great bunch of guys.
RSS: If you could golf on any course in the world, where would it be and why?
CC: Augusta National because it is one of the most famous and considered to be one of the top courses in the world.
RSS: What do you do to unwind before or after an event?
CC: Probably just watch a movie or relax and hang out with my friends.
