Women's Golf Takes Sixth Place At Hoya Invitational

The St. John's women's golf team worked its way to another sixth place finish on Sunday at the Hoya Invitational. The team shot a two-round total of 646, finishing just two strokes behind fifth place Gonzaga.
Senior Maggie Steciuk (London, Ontario, Canada) led the Red Storm with a 10th place finish. After carding a 84 in the first round, she bounced back in day two, firing a two-over par 74. Steciuk recorded a 158 overall.
Christin Thomson (Ft. Francis, Ontario, Canada) and Brittany Lambertson (Northport, N.Y.) also finished in the top-25. Thomson took 15th, shooting a four-over par 76 in the second round while Lambertson clinched 25th with a 19-over par 163.
Classmates Jaclyn Sanders (Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada) and Katie Lebel (Mooretown, Ontario, Canada) both had strong showings in round two of the Invitational. Sanders placed 31st overall after carding an 80 in the final day and Lebel had the largest improvement of the group, coming back from a 22-over par 94 in round one to shoot an 82 in round two.
The Red Storm will travel to the Hartford Invitational on April 10-11 in its last event of the spring season before the 2006 BIG EAST Championships take place on April 24-25 in Dade City, Fla.
