Red Storm Captures Third Place At Fordham Invitational

The St. John???s cross country team took third place at the Fordham Invitational on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Red Storm posted 83 points and finished behind Stony Book and Sacred Heart.
Seniors Jodey Johnson and Jane Vongvorachoti led St. John???s with an eight and 11th place finish, respectively. Johnson crossed the line in 20:11 while Vongvorachoti strided in with a time of 20:25.
Freshman Pamela Petruski clocked in at 20:34 for 13th place and sophomore Rakibat Abiola posted a time of 21:36 for 23rd. Freshman Sarah Fry closed out the scoring for the Red Storm in her collegiate debut. Fry recorded a time of 22:12 for 30th place.
Also competing for the Red Storm on Saturday was freshman Monique Major (23:00), junior Nerissa Pelle (23:41), freshman Erika Otero (24:18), and senior Thalene King (24:20).
"The team continues to improve each week and Saturday's efforts at Van Cortlandt Park was another step forward in developing a top level program," said head coach Jim Hurt. "Jodey and Jane are setting the pace and our newcomers Pam Petruski, Sarah Fry, and Monique Major are giving us solid efforts each week. Jane, Pam, Monique, Erika and Thalene all ran this course for the first time so I know they will get faster as the season progresses. As Rakibat and Nerissa continue to improve, the team will be very competitive in the championships later this season."
St. John???s returns to action Saturday, September 30 to compete at the George Mason Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
