QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's Softball team spent Halloween day with some very special people at the St. Mary's Children's Hospital in Bayside, Queens. The Red Storm made its annual trip to the hospital to bring some Halloween happiness to many of the children. Players and coaches joined the children, dressing up and playing games. The Softball Squad also participated in the annual Breast Cancer Walk on October 21st.
"Anytime you are in a position to help others, you can't help but leave the day with a better perspective on life," said head coach Amy Kvilhaug. "Our student-athletes understand how privileged they are and embrace bringing joy to the lives of those less fortunate. The children at the hospital really enjoyed our presence and it was a fun experience for all involved."
During the day at St. Mary's the team played with the kids as they colored, played computer games, and had a toilet paper mummy contest. All players also attended the Breast Cancer Walk which took place on Queens Boulevard. Money was raised before the walk to benefit breast cancer research. The Softball team and St. John's University continue to dedicate time to community service and helping others.
