QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team hits the road for the last time in the calendar year when it travels to Birmingham, Ala. for the UAB Blazer Invitational. The Red Storm opens the tournament facing Louisiana Monroe on Monday at 4 p.m.
• The game will feature live stats that can be accessed on www.REDSTORMSPORTS.com.
• St. John's will be looking to continue its winning ways after defeating Maine, 80-50, on Friday night to improve its record to 7-2. The victory helped the Red Storm bounce back from a tough loss to Hartford, 64-62, which snapped the team's four-game win streak.
• The contest with Louisiana Monroe is the first between the teams and is the first for the Red Storm against a team from the Sun Belt this season. St. John's has posted an all-time record of 1-2 against teams from that conference, losing to Florida International and New Orleans, and winning against Florida Atlantic.
First Time For Everything • On the schedule this season, the Red Storm has four first-time opponents featured. Maine, Louisiana Monroe, UAB or Delaware State, and Baylor are all first timers for St. John's.
Get That Outta Here With three swats against Maine on Dec. 14, Tiina Sten moved into the Top 10 in the St. John's career record books. The senior now has a total of 69, which ties her for 10th place all time. She is also two blocks away from moving into sole possession of ninth place all-time.
Put Me In Coach • All 12 active players saw action in the Red Storm's game against Maine on Dec. 14, marking the second time this season all players have seen action (Dartmouth). Against the Black Bears, 10 different players scored and 11 players grabbed at least one rebound.
Next Up In The Tournament • The Red Storm will either face host UAB or Delaware State on Tuesday.
• The Blazers have gotten off to a slow start this season with a 2-7 slate, including dropping their last four. UAB is being out-scored by an average of 9.6 points per game. Three players are averaging double-figures in scoring with Diamond Roger's 19.2 the team best. UAB has only played one home contest this season, losing to Charlotte, 73-63, in its last outing.
• The Hornets enter the tournament with a 3-4 record. The team split its last two games, losing to Fairleigh Dickinson, 58-57, on Dec. 5, and winning 63-49 over Army on Dec. 1.
