QUEENS, N.Y. - The second annual St. John's Baseball Bullpen Winter Banquet will be held on Thursday, January 24 and will feature New York Mets All-Star third basemen David Wright. The event will be held at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan and will begin with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
In addition to the reception and dinner, a live auction will be held with the chance to bid on a variety of priceless items. All proceeds from the evening's activities will directly benefit the Red Storm baseball program.
Tickets for the event are priced at $250 and tables of ten are available for $2,500. For more information and to order tickets, contact Valerie Richardson at richardv@stjohns.edu or 718-990-7566. Due to the success of last year's inaugural event, tickets are expected to go quickly.
Wright is a two-time All-Star for the Mets and earned a Gold Glove award at third base as well as a National League Silver Slugger award following a 2007 season in which he batted a career-high .325 and added a career-high 30 homeruns. Wright made his Major League debut during the 2004 season and batted .293 with 14 homeruns and 41 RBI in 69 games. In each season since 2004, Wright has batted over .300 and connected for at least 26 homeruns and 100 RBI. He is a .311 career hitter and sits just shy of the 100 career homerun mark with 97.
The St. John's baseball team begins the 2008 campaign on Feb. 22 with a game against Gardner-Webb. The Red Storm will play its first eight games in Rock Hill, South Carolina before heading to California for a four game set against Cal-State Northridge.
