St. John??' Men??' Tennis Faces Princeton Friday Afternoon

The St. John???s men???s tennis team will travel to New Jersey Friday afternoon to take on the 75th-ranked Princeton Tigers. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Jadwin Gym Tennis Courts in Princeton, N.J.
Storm Watch
St. John???s enters Friday???s contest with a 3-3 spring record. In its last outing, the Red Storm edged the Knights of Army, 4-3, at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y. St. John???s won the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, while senior Tom Green secured the win for the Red Storm with a straight sets triumph at sixth singles.
The Red Storm is currently led by senior captain Louis Desmarteaux, who is 10-3 on the season. He has compiled a perfect 5-0 dual match record playing at the No. 1 spot. Sophomores Jordan Talbot and Artem Vlasenko are tied for second on the team each posting a 3-3 singles mark. Vlasenko is 2-1 at second singles, while Talbot is 2-1 at the No. 5 position. In doubles action, Green and Vlasenko lead the Red Storm with a 4-1 dual match record splitting their time at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Friday marks the fourth meeting of the Red Storm and Tigers in head coach Eric Rebhuhn???s tenure at St. John???s. Princeton leads the series, 3-0. The two teams last met on Feb. 24, 2006 at the Jadwin Gym Tennis Courts, when the Tigers served up a 6-1 victory. Desmarteaux recorded St. John???s lone point of the match with a (6-2, 6-0) triumph over Sratha Saengsuwarn at the No. 1 spot.
Scouting The Tigers
Princeton, which is tied for 75th in the nation with three other schools, enters Friday???s event with a 3-1 spring record, which includes a 6-1 win over No. 71 Central Florida. In its last outing, Princeton defeated St. Joseph???s (Pa.), 6-1, at the Jadwin Gym Tennis Courts. The Tigers won the early advantage, taking two of the three doubles matches. In singles play, St. Joseph???s Jarrett Chirico won a three-set battle over Princeton???s Peter Capkovic at the No. 1 spot.
The Tigers are lead by junior Saengsuwarn, who has compiled a 10-3 overall singles record, going 6-0 in dual action playing at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Capkovic is second on the squad with an 11-5 overall record and 4-2 dual singles mark at the No. 1 position. Meanwhile, freshman Alex Vuckovic is third on the squad after posting a 7-4 singles record. In doubles action, the duo of Capkovic and Vuckovic are undefeated at the No. 2 spot with a 3-0 duals record, while juniors Ted Mabrey and Mark Gober are second on the team with a 3-1 mark.
On Deck
The Red Storm returns on action on Monday, March 5 against the Trojans of Troy State in its first match of the 2007 Spring Break Road Trip. First serve is scheduled for Noon at Florida Atlantic University.
