The St. John???s softball team has four freshmen on its 2007 squad. As a rookie, there is a lot to learn, a lot to experience and a lot of firsts. Ona Halladay, Brandy Reyes, Tiffany D???Alessandro, and Shauntaine Harris will takewww.RedStormSports.com along with them for the ride. In the second installment of ???Rookie Diary,??? Shauntaine Harris talks about her role on the team and playing at home on Red Storm Field.
Hi St. John???s Softball Fans:
My name is Shauntaine Harris and I am the starting center fielder for the Red Storm softball team. I am originally from Moreno Valley, Calif.
So far this season, I have started every game in center field. As a freshman, I am really excited that I have had the opportunity to start and contribute to the team right away. Offensively, I am doing better than I expected that I would during my first season. Before I came to St. John???s, I had never hit a home run. So far this season, I have three, which is shocking. I am also glad that I have been able to contribute, driving in 14 runs to date.
After playing more than 20 games on the road, it was great to start playing at home. There is something about playing at home with our own fans, on our own field, with our walkout songs, that???s give you that feeling. During our home games, I have posted three doubles, three runs and four RBI on nine hits.
Moving from California to New York really wasn???t that big of a change for me. I love the people, my teammates and the campus. I live in the residence halls with some of the other freshmen on the team and we have a lot of fun. The best thing about New York is it never sleeps! I???m really having a great experience so far.
Thanks and Go Red Storm!
Shauntiane Harris, #1
