Red Storm Softball Hosts Sacred Heart

??? The St. John???s softball team will open its six game home stand with a non-conference doubleheader against Sacred Heart on Wednesday, April 18, at 3 p.m. The Red Storm will close out the week with twin bills against Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
??? The Red Storm lost a pair of road games against BIG EAST foe Rutgers on Saturday, April 14, 3-2 and 7-6 (9). Rutgers and St. John???s tied the game three times in a nine inning game two loss. Red Storm pitcher Lisa Geer worked more than 13 innings in the circle, striking out nine. Sophomore Roxann Struble blasted back-to-back home runs in consecutive at bats, coming up with her fifth and sixth homers of the season. She finished the game with four RBI and two runs.
??? Sacred Heart swept a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary???s in its last outing, taking the opener, 2-1 in eight innings, before capturing the second game, 2-0. Pitchers Bethany Lemenager and Megan Spehar combined to strikeout 15 batters and allowed just one run. Sephar was named the Enterprise Rent-a-Car/Sacred Heart University Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance in the circle.

??? The Red Storm softball team took a pair of hard-fought losses to BIG EAST foe Rutgers, 3-2 and 7-6 (9). Game two saw sophomore Roxann Struble homer in consecutive at bats, posting four RBI for the Red Storm. St. John???s is now 11-28 on the season, 3-9 in the BIG EAST.
??? Junior pitcher Lisa Geer did a solid job in the circle, despite being tagged with the pair of losses. She tossed 13.2 innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out nine.
??? At the plate, Brandy Reyes once again got the job done, going 5-for-7 on the day. SeniorLoren Anguiano posted four hit and two runs.
Seeing Double
??? Senior Loren Anguiano has doubled in each of St. John???s last six BIG EAST games and in 10 out of the team???s last 12, overall. She leads her team with 11 doubles, which is also a career high for the third basemen. Anguiano is tied for first in the BIG EAST in doubles, fourth in runs scored (26) and fifth in total bases (61).
Storm Tracker
??? Rookie Brandy Reyes continues to be consistent at the plate as she leads the team with a .360 batting average and 41 hits. She is sixth among BIG EAST leaders in batting average and seventh in hits So far this season, Reyes has also posted seven runs, seven doubles and 13 RBI. The catcher has shown no signs of nerves in BIG EAST action as she hitting .421 with a pair of doubles and a .474 slugging percentage.
??? Senior second baseman Tami Hill has become one of the Red Storm???s most reliable hitters as she has now hit safely in St. John???s last eight games. She is third on the team with a .282 batting average and 37 hits. Her 10 doubles is second best on the squad and ranks third in the BIG EAST. Co-captain Bionka King has continued her impressive play as the starting left fielder. She is fourth on the team with a .258 batting average and has 24 hits overall.
??? Roxann Struble has been outstanding for the Red Storm in recent play and made the BIG EAST???s Honor Roll for the week of April 2. She tied for fifth in the conference for home runs (6) and eighth in RBI (23). Struble is second on the team in BIG EAST games with a .405 batting average and 15 hits and leads her squad with 11 runs, five home runs and 15 RBI. Overall, the infielder is hitting .248 at the plate and leads the team with 23 RBI.
??? Newcomers Shauntaine Harris, Ona Halladay, Spring Montgomery and Tiffany D???Alessandro have each had their moment to shine for the Red Storm. Harris???s 14 RBI is second best on the team and she has notched three home runs to go with her superb play in centerfield. Halladay posted her second double of the season in a conference game against Seton Hall and has 12 hits so far this season. Montgomery has driven in eight RBI and three doubles, spending time as the first basemen and the designated player while D???Alessandro has seen time in three BIG EAST games. She is hitting .333 over those three games with one hit and one run.
??? In the circle, senior Kim Lerch has tossed more than 124.0 innings so far this season and is fifth in the BIG EAST in innings pitched. She has set a new career-high in strikeouts with 67 and earned her first conference win of the season against Seton Hall.
??? Junior pitcher Lisa Geer has now tossed more 126.0 innings, good for fourth in the BIG EAST. She boasts a 4.17 ERA with five wins so far this season. Her 84 strikeouts is good for ninth among conference pitchers.
