Softball Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson On The Road

The St. John???s softball team swept a pair of games against Fairleigh Dickinson, 15-4 and 9-1. Senior Loren Anguiano led the offensive explosion with three home runs for the outing. The Red Storm improves to 14-29 on the season as pitcher Lisa Geer and Kim Lerch picked up their sixth and seventh wins, respectively.
The Red Storm opened the flood gates in the first inning of game one, scoring 11 runs and setting the pace for the day. Senior co-captain Tami Hill was walked to start the frame and classmate Anguiano followed up with her first long-ball of the day. The two-run home run was just the beginning as Roxann Struble hit a single to get on base, was advanced by a hit from Brandy Reyes and scored on Danielle Estrada???s double. Bionka King had a two-run double, Ona Halladay added an RBI single, Struble shot an RBI single and Estrada had a two-run double to center field before the inning ended.
Game one was also highlighted by Reyes???s first collegiate home run and three consecutive doubles from Estrada. Geer earned her fifth win of the season over five innings, striking out eight.
St. John???s didn???t let up in the second game of the twin bill as Anguiano and Struble had back-to-back home runs to start off the second game. Anguiano knocked the ball over the left field fence and Struble followed it over the centerfield fence in the top of the first inning. Reyes then hit a single and was plated by Harris. King knocked in two more to give St. John???s a 5-0 lead entering into the bottom half of the inning.
Anguiano and Struble closed the door on the game in the second inning as duo once again went belly-to-belly, blasting home runs in consecutive innings.
Lerch posted her second straight victory, improving to seven wins on the season. She has allowed only one run in her last two outings.
Next up, the Red Storm will host Syracuse and Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST conference weekend. St. John???s will take on Syracuse on Saturday, April 21 in a 12 p.m. doubleheader before welcoming Pittsburgh on Sunday, April 22 at 11 a.m.
