LaMare, Michaelsen Tabbed To The ECAC Honor Roll

Lacrosse juniors Tim LaMare and Tom Michaelsen earned spots on this week???s ECAC Honor Roll for their roll in helping the Red Storm to its second league victory, 13-10 over Hobart, since the program???s reinstatement in 2005.
LaMare, a junior defender from Philadelphia, Pa. (Lawrence Academy), led the Red Storm defense, holding Hobart???s leading scorer, Jamie Kirk, to just one goal, scored on a man-up advantage for the Statesmen. LaMare???s strength in the back field also held Kirk, who led the NCAA last week in assists per game (3.1), to just one helper on 10 Statesmen goals.
A junior attackman from Bethpage, N.Y. (Bethpage), Michaelsen led the Red Storm on offense with five points in the 13-10 victory. Scoring his fourth hat trick of the season, with the addition of two helpers, Michaelsen advanced his season point total to 34 and his career total to 91, moving him up to No. 9 on St. John???s All-Time Scorer leader board. Michaelsen???s goals against Hobart came at key times, tying the game at 3-3 at the end of the first period, and giving the Red Storm a one-goal lead twice in the second quarter, 6-5 and 8-7. Michaelsen currently ranks seventh in the league in assists per game (1.25) and eighth in points per game (2.83). Nationally, the junior is ranked in the top half of Division I in points per game and assists per game. He is also ranked in goals per game (1.58).
As a team, St. John???s leads the conference in penalty-killing percentage (.788), allowing just 14 goals in 66 man-up opportunities. In the most recent poll, the Red Storm is also ranked eighth nationally in this statistic.
With the win, the Red Storm moves up two spots in the conference to sixth with a league record of 2-4 and an overall record of 5-7, a program best since 1995.
Up next, the Red Storm will travel to Fairfield, Conn., for its final game of the season against the Fairfield Stags. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 29.
